I started my "Bobcat" on Memorial weekend and thought I could get her done by the last week in July.. ( working on weekends only)  Actually I
only missed it by two weeks...   The hull is completely built of 1/4  acx
superply from a locally owned lumber yard...

boat2.jpg (16484 bytes) I priced Okumme but didn't buy because I thought I shouldn't cash my daughter's college fund just for a 12 and 1/2 foot boat... I did Epoxy the hull as I put her together and epoxied everything on her...
I will say that it took a lot more epoxy than the book " build the new instant catboat" by Dynamite said .. but I figured what the ....... I did use Raka from Larry Steves.  He was very helpful and I thought the price was reasonable.... boat 8.jpg (16146 bytes)
boat8a.jpg (14222 bytes) The Floorboards and coamings were made from some old "Indiana walnut " that my Grandfather gave to me years ago...
I did epoxy the coamings and used 3 coats of spar varnish on them ... the floorboard .. seat ... and shelves were sealed with sealer and then used 3 coats of spar...

boat3.jpg (15072 bytes) The mast is made of 2x6's just like payson did in the book.. then epoxied .. and 3 coats of spar... I will suggest to any one that the 2 layers of 1/4 ply for the gaff jaws were not enough in my case.. the jaws broke on the first time that I put up the sail... Luckily it was in my driveway and I was saved a little embarrassment.. ( only the brother-in-law had a good laugh) .. so I doubled up some 1/2 in ply and have had no problem since...
The sail was made from Poly .. the poly sail company .. I thought I would try it , since I knew that I only had a short season left.. I am completely satisfied with the poly for this boat and think I will continue to make and use them... ( again Dave Gray from polysail was a tremendous help .. and a fellow Hoosier.HA!!!)...

I did epoxy paint the hull with 2 coats of primer and then used 2 coats of boat paint damn that stuff is expensive!!!!)... all in all I feel that she is a very good craft. and I hate to say that I have become a boat building junkie... I have built furniture.. guitars... cabinets... and about everything that can be built from wood .. but building "Flynn's Folly" was the most fun I have ever had building something from wood....
