Walkabout

Hi Chuck,

I've been following Wayne Jorgensens building since he started his first boat, a Seagull, about 2 1/2 years ago. When he'd finshed that he wanted to carry on building and I talked him into taking on the first Walkabout plan build, and lo! Here she is! Out on the Brisbane river last weekend.

She's only a rowing boat until the budget allows sails, but Wayne tells me that she moves and handles very well.

I'm looking forward to seeing her with the rig up!

I am pretty pleased with the design, and have great hopes for her as a serious cruiser for lakes and the more intimate sort of coastal and estuary exploration work.

Like all of them, I fall in love with the design while its on the drawing board and want one for myself.

From Wayne Jorgensen:

"I've now rowed 2X 4k stints in her and am now more used to the higher arm position without a seat cushion. A bit higher up on a cushion may help though.

"I've had to slow my stroke rate down (those big oars have a lot of inertia) but get along ok due to the big blades on the oars. She appears marginally slower than Seagull over the same distance however that may be me needing to get used to her. It may also be my imagination but I find the river current has less drag on her than Seagull.

"I also took the family out in her. Very little extra effort required. She is also surprisingly stable - again a good thing when the family is involved."
